In-situ geotechnical testing
CPT South Australia provides cone penetration testing (CPT/CPTu), flat dilatometer testing (DMT) and downhole seismic testing throughout South Australia and interstate.
Testing capabilities
CPT / CPTu
Digital cone penetration testing with tip resistance, sleeve friction, pore pressure and inclination measurements. Pore pressure dissipation testing as required.
Flat dilatometer (DMT)
Marchetti flat dilatometer testing for in-situ soil characterisation.
Seismic testing
Downhole S-wave measurements. P-wave acquisition available where appropriate to the investigation.
Equipment
Geomil digital CPT system with 10 cm² compression and subtraction cones. Digital signal processing and RS485 communications are well suited to electrically noisy environments.

CPT truck
Mercedes 6×4 CPT truck with a dedicated three-cylinder diesel hydraulic power pack and two-speed push/pull system.

Standards and deliverables
CPT testing to AS 1289.6.5.1 and with reference to ISO 22476-1. DMT testing to ISO 22476-11. Downhole seismic testing with reference to ASTM D7400/D7400M.
Typical CPT deliverables include formatted sounding traces in PDF and data in Excel format.
Qualifications and compliance
Operated by a qualified geologist holding a National Class 2 Water Well Drillers Licence, with endorsements for auger, rotary air, mud and non-drilling operations.
Safe work method statements, pre-start checks and plant maintenance records are maintained. Public liability and professional indemnity insurance held.
